An earthquake and a hurricane.

Wow, we really had a week full of natural disasters.  Luckily, for us there was not much physical damage to house with either.  After this week, I have concluded that mother nature is both terrifying and wonderful and that everything with children is all that more scary.  For instance, the earthquake was frightening because I was worried for the boys who were both asleep in their cribs.  I worry less for myself and more that something will happen to the boys and I will not have control.  What a scary week for us.

House after the storm

We got a lot of rain!
Hanging out during the storm.

Staying busy.

We all got a little stir crazy.  Georgie was feeling so crazy he thought about eating Ernie.  Oh wait, all babies do that!

Finally, the storm is over and we can get outside!
Stephen is learning to do the swings on his own.

Boys love their Daddy!

Our little guys are fascinated by everything Steve does, especially mowing the lawn.  Here they watching Daddy at work!  That is actually what Stephen calls it "Daddy workin."

Burke Lake and a train ride!

Yesterday, we went to Burke Lake for the first time.  Wow, what an awesome place!  Living in such a large county, I am always surprised at how much I don't know about the area. The highlight of the trip was riding the train.

Our crew.

Stephen was very serious during the ride, taking it all in.  There were a lot of new noises and the train moved quickly.

Checking this out!

Congratulations Kara and Rob!

Tonight we got to celebrate Kara and Rob's engagement. Kara and Rob are friends from our Hoosier Daddy days.  Well, actually Steve is still plays softball with our friends, it is just a little harder for me to make it to the mall with both kids.  Steve started the Hoosier Daddies along with a colleague (now friend) back when he worked in on the Hill.  The summer has always been a fun time because we spend each Thursday on the National Mall with friends playing softball.
The Happy Couple!

Stephen staying busy.

Georgie and the Ladies!  Anne (now Captain of the Hoosier Daddies) and Sara (who started the team with Steve)

We are so happy for Kara and Rob.  Best wishes for a long and happy life together.  We can't wait to celebrate with you.

Happy Hour!

I actually went to happy hour!  It's been years since we have ventured out between those hours, well not really, but we went into the city to meet Tierney and a friend, and have dinner at Tierney's house.  This was a special adult activity to do and we picked the best place to do it--an outside beer garden.  I would be lying if I said we didn't get a few funny looks when we strolled in with our massive double BOB stroller, but we made it work. And to our surprise, other kids showed up.  We had a blast and as always are reminded by all the city and this area has to offer, especially friends!  It was great to see Emily, a dear friend from our Bryn Mawr days, who has returned to DC.  Yippee to friends and flexible children!

A trip to GG and Nanny's House

My parents moved at the beginning of June to a new house that is heaven for their grandchildren because they have a pool!  We have had a great time visiting them when we got to sneak away for a few extra days this summer to spend some time with them.  Stephen and Georgie really love the water.  Our visit was fun-filled as we got to swim, visit a dairy for fresh ice cream and see newly born piglets, have a special lunch with Grammie, and went to my brother's house to have dinner with him, Erika, and Chloe.  Hooray for fun trips!

He is really a fish in the water.

Swimming!!!

Steve and GG (Grandpa Greg) with some help from Christopher built a playhouse for the boys!

Steve hard at work.

Stephen loves the house, complete with a phone.

Lunch

Today, we got to go visit TT (Aunt Tierney) in the city and enjoyed a yummy vegan lunch together.  Both boys loved their "mac and cheese."  Luckily for me, my sister watched the boys so I could get a haircut, however, we forgot about the challenges of maneuvering around the city with two little guys and a stroller.  To make matters worse, Tierney got stuck with a little guy who started yelling "potty."  Poor TT had to figure out what to do with two little guys in the bathroom.  We hope the experience did not scare poor TT too much!  What a fun day for the little guys and for me!  Hooray for sisters!!!!!!

Georgie Dance.

As George approaches his first birthday at the end of September, more of his personality is starting to emerge and we are having a blast with him as he crawls around.  George has always moved his arms up and down in something that we call the "Georgie dance."  He continues to do this especially around meal time.  He pauses once he is finished his dance waiting for us to laugh and then keeps it going.  These are the types of things, I hope this blog captures so we dont forget the cute little things our guys did as babies.  We got some great pictures of him!
